| Michael D. “Mick” Carreiro, 58, of Westerly, passed away at Hartford Hospital on Sunday, December 28, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Trudee (Hawkins) Carreiro, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage, love, and family. Born in Westerly, he was the beloved son of Idalina and the late Jose Carreiro. Michael dedicated his career to serving and protecting his community. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Westerly Police Department after 27 years of service. He later continued his work as a Detective Sergeant for the University of Rhode Island Police Department. His commitment, integrity, and leadership left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him. In addition to his wife Trudee, Michael is survived by his four children, Ashlee R. Carreiro (Matthew), Victoria E. Carreiro, Miranda D. Carreiro, and Michael D. Carreiro, who were the pride and joy of his life. He also leaves behind his loving siblings, Carmelia Cabral, Joseph Carreiro, and Lina O’Leary, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews. Michael enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing and golfing, taking pride in projects and work around the house, and finding joy in being busy with his hands. His greatest enjoyment, however, came from watching his children play sports and being present for the moments that mattered most to them. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 2nd from 3pm – 7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at St. Michael Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck at 10am on Saturday, January 3rd. There is no procession from the funeral home to church.
