Rescue Squad

The Westerly Ambulance Corps has provided a Rescue Squad since 1954. This is unique because in most towns' fire departments provide this service. The Rescue Squad is all volunteer. The Rescue Squad specializes in vehicle extrication, trench rescue, dive rescue, swift-water rescue, ice rescue, rope rescue (High and Low Angle), and emergency scene lighting.

Rescue 1 (Heavy Duty Rescue)

2005 International 4400 with a 330 hp, 950 lb.ft. torque engine. The body was designed by Hackney Emergency Vehicles. Rescue 1 provides emergency response capabilities to medical emergencies, auto extrication, collapse and trench rescue, high and low angle rescue and all water rescue responses.

Rescue 1 has a 12,000 lb. Warn winch which is installed in the extended front bumper. In addition, there are 10,000 lb. receivers located under the front bumper, ahead of the left and right rear wheels and under the rear step bumper. A 9000 lb. Warn portable winch was supplied that can be attached to any of the receiver locations. The front bumper also included an electric rewind hydraulic hose reel and a storage compartment.

Rescue 1 has a 25,000 watt PTO generator mounted in the lower left front compartment that powers three (3) 240VAC cord reels with 200-ft of cord. The 240VAC power is split into two separate 30-amp circuits at the power distribution box providing pull amperage output for all four outlets in each of the lighted power distribution boxes. Scene lighting is provided by a CL-615 Command Light on the recessed roof and two removable tripod flood lights on the rear of the body.

Rescue 1 has full compliment of Hurst extrication tools which includes a Hurst Trimo Power Unit which powers two pre connected reels to the rear of the truck that are connected to a 32" spreader and a cutter. A third reel is piped to the front bumper of the truck and is available for connecting any of our 3 different sizes of rams or a combi tool.

Rescue 2 (Utility)

2000 Ford E-550 4x4. Rescue 2 is equipped with BLS supplies, and an AED. Rescue 2 holds dive equipment, ice rescue suits, rope, life jackets, and other useful rescue equipment. Both Rescue 1 and 2 are equipped with lighting to assist at scenes of emergencies.

Rescue 3 (ALS Response)

2005 GMC 1500 4x4 Extended Cab Pickup Truck. Rescue 3 is certified as an ALS Response Unit. Rescue 3 is capable of traveling on the beach.

Rescue 4

13 foot Boston Whaler Rescue Boat. Rescue 4 specializes in water operations in the Pawcatuck River.

Rescue 5

24 foot Privateer Rescue Boat that specializes in ocean rescues. Rescue 5 is equipped with an AED and BLS supplies. Rescue 5 is stationed at headquarters in the winter and then is placed into the water at a dock in Watch Hill during the warm months.
